A detail of block 6 (Rose Delicious Delight):

And a detail of block 7 (Give & Take Swirly):

This time again, I combined needle-turn applique, raw-edge applique and some bobbin work, all done by machine.

Thank you for taking the time to read.
Happy quilting!

Red Delicious 4: Peony Bloom

0 of much appreciated comments
Although my favorite colors are in the spectrum blue-green with a touch of purple, I still love the Red Delicious challenge!
Block 4 is, until now, with 13.5 x 22 inch the biggest block.

I tried some heavy Blanket Stitching on the vase, with cotton thread King Tut 920:

It really makes the parts stand-out!

It has been a month since I posted my last blog.
But I have a good excuse: rearranging my sewing room!
Some blogs from now I hope to show you pictures.

Red Delicious 3: Two Pomegranites & One Apple

0 of much appreciated comments
Finally the block with the two pomegranites and the apple is finished.
I experimented with some fancy stitching on the QE440 sewing machine to make the hanging triangles and tassels:

To give more dimension I added some old crochet. I am content with the result of these little try-outs. It is a nice way to learn more of the possibilities of the sewing machine I won with this quilt. Though it is a pity I still have some problems with the BSR.

Red Delicious 2: Nightshade

0 of much appreciated comments
Nightshade is the name of block number two of the Block Of the Month mystery called Red Delicious. For the connection of the leaves to the stem I used Ricky's Razzle Dazzle thread (color 263), but doubled the bobbinwork to let it look more pronounced. All applique pieces are needleturned with the use of Ricky Tims stable stuff as foundation.
The circles at the end of the petals have double stable stuff in them, so they will appear more full after washing. As you may know the stable stuff will not be stiff anymore after washing, and will give an extra dimension to the applique.
This is the result:

Thank you for reading, I hope you like the BOM as much as I do and have the time to join too! And if you already joined, I love to see a picture of the blocks you made. And to you and your loved ones:

Merry Christmas

After seeing the Lovebirds block I couldnot resist making this, although I never did needle-turn applique before:

Part two:

If you are interested in joining the Red Delicious Mystery BOM then you have to hurry! The Lovebirds block will be replaced on the 15th by block number two. I almost cannot wait for the next block, because I am enjoying my first time big applique project.
I am practicing some of the techniques I learned from Ricky Tims DVD "Grand Finale".
I also tryed out some bobbinwork with Ricky's Razzle Dazzle thread (color 263).
