From Four seasons from a train window

Being one of a group of four, I am proud to present this quilt, consisting of four panels made by the members of the group. It has been on display (no. 234 for the catalog owners) during the annual general exhibition of the Dutch Quiltersguild from September 10-15, 2010 in Deventer.

The quilt is inspired by the painting "From A Train Window" of the Dutch artist Rob Koenders and is constructed with his full consent.
From left to right the panels are:

• Spring by Carla
• Summer by me, Geni
• Autumn by Klaske
• Winter by Julie

Each member added something of herself by interpreting a season and by making a panel in her own choice of materials (click picture to enlarge):

I enjoyed making this group quilt, while stretching myself in working with other materials and techniques than I normally do.

Great news and great gifts

The group quilt I made together with 3 other women has been approved for the annual exposition of the Dutch Quiltersguild! Four panels, each made by one of us, are joined together to make one group quilt. After the expostion has ended I can show you the quilt.

For now you can take sneak peeks at some bits and pieces of the panel I made. I found a wonderful hand embroidery tutorial at Laura Wasilowski's blog, called Thread-u-cation Thursday and this little piece shows one of my first attempts in using the "French knot":

If you are in the neigbourhood of Deventer, from September 10-15, please come and visit the exposition in the Lebuinus Church. There will be 320 quilts to admire and number 234 is ours. During the exposition I will be also a first time "angel" on 3 days, so perhaps we will meet and have a nice chat with each other.

One of the partipating quilting friends who is in New Zealand at the moment, surprised me with New Zealand fabric beauties:

The dots on the light green fabric are done with a stamp made from a potato and Jacquard's Lumiere Metallic Bronze (565) and Pearlescent Emerald (572).
To add a light dimension to this part of a new "landscape" quilt, I used machine stitches made with a cotton thread from Superior's King Tut. The variegated colours of the thread add a nice touch to the green fabric.

Although this year's Art Every Day Month has stopped, I still love to share my experiments with machine stitching by putting them online.

No doodling with sharpies today, but stiching on the sewing machine, using some favorite colored fabrics and threads, and a fun stitch.
